Rohit Sharma To Rest In India vs. New Zealand Champions Trophy

India has been sailing smoothly in the Champions Trophy so far. It had great inning against Pakistan and now the team is all set to attack the “Black Caps”. But here’s a twist. We might not be able to see our hitman in the next match as he sufferend hamstring injury in the last one.

India Vs. Pakistan: Champions Trophy 2025

During India vs Pakistan we observed him moving out of the field with Shubman Gill taking the charge. Although Rohit Sharma returned after a short while and led the “Men In Blue” successfully his injuries were evident.

After a  two-day break, Team India strted practising in the nets but Rohit was no where to be seen initially. He stayed indoor for the rest. Later while he came for joggings, strengthening and conditioning with coach and physiotherapy. We could see him not pushing  himself to great extent.

The scheduled match of India vs New Zealand is on one day’s gap to the semifinals. In the next couple of days it will be decided whether Rohit will be in on Sunday or not. The team might not risk the final opportunity to enter the semi finals.

With the yesterday’s match with England, Afghanistan’s massive victory has made India practice three hours as they don’t who will be there opponent in the semi-finals yet. After the weekend matches, it might get clear for them.

Rohit Sharma (India Team: Captain)

As Rohit’s fitness is a big concern for now, India is planning two backups. Either it will be Rishabh Pant or Washington Sundar. Both left-handers has aggressive training in the netswith spinners and pacers.

With Rohit unavilable for the game, it will be interesting to see who will be opening with Shubhman Gill. They have an opener who can slot in easily at the top, in KL Rahul, but that would mean disturbing middle order before the knockouts which is already set.
