Will India qualify for WTC final in 2025? Well, the answer to this question is a “BIG NO”. India did not make it to the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, which is set for June 2025 at Lord’s, after losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 1-3.
Due to their constant performances throughout the WTC cycle, South Africa and Australia are the finalists. However, the loss to New Zealand hurt India’s chances of qualifying more than the series loss in Australia. After being humiliated at home for the first time in twenty-four years, India’s weakness to play spin on home tracks returned.
The BlackCaps won the first Test match in Bengaluru by eight wickets, the second in Pune by 113 runs, and the third in Mumbai by 25 runs. India was bowled out for 46 runs in the Bengaluru Test, their lowest score at home. New Zealand’s first series victory in India, dating back to 1955, also ended the hosts’ 18-game winning streak at home since a 2-1 defeat to England in 2012.
However, it’s not the end of the world if India doesn’t make it to the World Test Championship final. The Indian squad is presently going through a transition, and it’s likely that some of its top players will be phased out before or during the upcoming WTC cycle. This will give young talent a chance to shine. The series defeat to Australia has brought attention to areas that need work, especially in seam bowling and batting. India can benefit from this experience by rearranging and improving their plan. In June, India will tour England to kick off the next WTC cycle. India will face a new challenge and a chance to make corrections, and this could be a new beginning.
