India Demanding “Rank Turner” For Mumbai Test?

India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar on Wednesday insisted that they do not ask for tailor-made pitches in Tests and also backed out-of-form legends Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma, saying that they must be given “space and time to come back.” After copping the first-ever Test series loss at home in 12 years, India will strive to salvage their pride when they clash with New Zealand in the third and final Test on Friday. Playing on a track that assisted spinners, India lost the Pune Test by 113 runs. It is being speculated that the pitch at Wankhede Stadium here could again favor the spinners. Nayar refuted suggestions that turning tracks are being made to the best of the team. “I wish we could curate pitches, but we don’t. The curators do. Whatever we’re provided with, we go on and play (whether) that’d be a pitch that seamed or a pitch that turned,” Nayar said on the eve of the final Test. “As cricketers and as a team, we try and play what we’re provided with. We don’t try and get conditions according to what we want.” Both Rohit and Kohli are woefully out of form, and that has impacted the team’s performance. Nayar said there was nothing wrong with the modern-day greats, and all they need is just a bit of time and backing. “I’ve seen nothing but love for them all over. When a top player, when someone who’s been through the journey, goes through a lull, a lot of times it’s about giving them their space and trusting that they will come back. They will put in the work,” he said. “Everyone’s worked hard; everyone wants to do well, whether you’re Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or even someone as young as Shubman Gill. The effort is there.” “The approach is great. I feel they’re putting in the hard yards. Sometimes, sometimes you’ve got to be a little patient, even with the greatest of players, and they can have tough times. I’m pretty sure sooner rather than later, we’ll have more to praise about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and everyone else as well. We need to have just a bit of patience,” he said. “Huge Difference”: Ex-Australia Skipper On Shami’s Absence From Upcoming BGT

Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia, former Australia skipper Tim Paine expressed his feelings as right-arm seamer Mohammed Shami is set to miss the upcoming series. Following the end of the ODI World Cup 2023, the India pacer suffered an ankle injury, which forced him to stay away from the field since November last year. “Shami is going to be a huge difference, Bumrah, there is so much on his shoulders. If he gets hurt, then it’s curtains for me,” Paine said while talking on The Grade Cricketer podcast. The most awaited Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia will begin on November 22, with the first Test at Perth. The second Test, scheduled for December 6 to 10 at Adelaide Oval, will feature the exciting day-night format under the stadium’s lights. After that, fans will turn their attention to The Gabba in Brisbane for the third Test, which will be held from December 14 to 18. The customary Boxing Day Test, set for December 26 to 30 at Melbourne’s storied Melbourne Cricket Ground, will bring the series to its penultimate stage. The fifth and final Test, to take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7, will serve as the series climax, promising a dramatic conclusion to an exciting contest. Last week, Shami was not included in the squad as India announced their team for the upcoming five-match Test series in Australia. Opener Rohit Sharma will be leading the side and right-arm seamer Jasprit Bumrah will be his deputy. India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar. The story has not been edited by 24x7sportshub and is published from a syndicated feed.

IPL Retention Rules: All From Price Categories To RTM

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 retention deadline is only hours away as the 10 franchises look to finalize the list of players they wish to keep ahead of the mega auction. A maximum of 6 players can be retained by each franchise, including one uncapped player. But there remain certain rules that each franchise has to follow. The price bifurcation, announced by the IPL Governing Council, has made retention a tricky task for most franchises. Those who were willing to keep hold of the majority of their players don’t want to put a big dent in the purse. Those who were willing to let go of most of the players are contemplating whether to make the most of certain loopholes that exist in the rulebook. As all 10 franchises look set to announce the names of their retained players, we take a detailed look at the rules that are to be followed. 1. What is the IPL 2025 retention deadline? October 31, 5 pm IST, is the deadline by which all 10 franchises have to submit their lists of retained players. While negotiations are in full swing, no extension is expected to be granted to any of the teams. 2. What are the IPL 2025 retention price categories? Each team has been given a purse of INR 120 crore to build the roster. For the first player retained, INR 18 crore will be deducted from the purse. The second retention will see a deduction of INR 14, INR 11 crore for the third. Interestingly, Rs 18 crore and Rs 14 crore will be deducted for the 4th and 5th deductions, taking the overall deduction for 5 players to INR 75 crores. If a team decides to retain an uncapped player, it will lose INR 4 crore from the purse. A maximum of 2 uncapped players can be retained. Franchises can pay more than these prices to each player, but not less. 3. Can the Rs 75 crore quota for 5 players be internally adjusted? Yes, franchises have been allowed to internally adjust the salaries given if they retain 5 players. For example, if the first-choice player fetches INR 23 crore (Rs 5 crore more than the set price of Rs 18 crore), the 5th player can be given Rs 9 crore instead of Rs 14 crore to keep the Rs 75 crore sum as it is. If a franchise spends more than Rs 75 crore to retain a player, it would be forced to deduct the additional money from the overall purse balance. 4. What happens if a franchise retains one, two, three, or four players? For a single-capped retention, INR 18 crore will be deducted from the franchise’s purse. For two capped players, they will lose Rs INR 32 crore (18+14) or a higher amount, which will be deducted from the overall balance. For three capped players, at least INR 43 crore (18+14+11), and for four capped players, at least INR 61 crore (18+14+11+18). 5. How can Right To Match be used? Franchises can adjust their Right to Match and retention lists. A maximum of 6 players can be retained, be it through RTM or straight retention. If a franchise doesn’t retain a single player, it can still get 6 players back through RTM in the auction.   The story has not been edited by 24x7sportshub and is published from a syndicated feed.

MS. Dhoni On IPL Retention

Dhoni Takes Dig At IPL Retention Rumours, Says “Everyone’s A Team Owner…”

The deadline for the IPL 2025 retentions will end on Thursday and experts as well as fans have been trying to predict that big names that find their way into the mega auction. While nothing has been confirmed by the BCCI or the franchises, the rumour mill has been working overtime with many prominent players finding themselves in headlines. In a recent event, former Indian cricket team skipper MS Dhoni was asked about the continuous discussions and he came up with a hilarious reply.  “Everyone is a team owner now,” Dhoni said at the event. “Whatever player they desire, whichever player is going up for auction and whoever they decide to purchase, we should be prepared for it. IPL auction works in mysterious ways.,” he added. Dhoni, who captained Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles, recently confirmed that he will be taking part in IPL 2025. The veteran wicket-keeper batter is expected to be retained by Chennai Super Kings for just Rs 4 crores thanks to a rule that was brought back by the BCCI for this auction. According to the rule, an Indian cricket team player will be considered ‘uncapped’ if he has not played for the national side in the last five years. “People enter the auction, and there’s the uncertainty of where you’ll end up. The most delightful aspect comes from the fans. They are the ones who make predictions on which team a certain player will end up with. Look, you find yourself in a market where all teams are well-funded,” Dhoni explained. “Whoever acquires you, you will need to perform for them. That certainly is the beauty of the IPL auction. It’s not simply a trade; rather, it involves one player being moved to another franchise. You have the freedom to go wherever you desire,” Dhoni added.

Harbhajan Has Last Laugh As Pak Warning To Gary Kirsten Turns Into Reality

As former South Africa cricketer Gary Kirsten joined the Pakistan men’s team as their limited-overs coach, not many in the Indian cricketing fraternity were happy. Kirsten was Team India’s coach when the MS Dhoni-led side won the ICC ODI World Cup in 2011. Seeing Kirsten join the team across the border, many fans and former India cricketers weren’t pleased. In fact, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh even asked him to return to the Indian team as head coach. Now that Kirsten has resigned as Pakistan’s coach, Harbhajan had the ‘last laugh’. “Don’t waste ur time there Gary.. Come back to Coach Team INDIA. Gary Kirsten One of the rare gems. A great coach, mentor, friend to all in the 1202 team. Our winning coach of the 2011 World Cup. Special Man Gary @Gary_Kisten,” Harbhajan Singh had written in a post on X after Pakistan were knocked out early from the T20 World Cup 2024. Don’t waste ur time there Gary .. Come back to Coach Team INDIA .. Gary Kirsten One of the rare .. A Great Coach ,Mentor, Honest nd very dear friend to all in the our 2011 Team .. our winning coach of 2011 worldcup . Special man Gary @Gary_Kirsten https://t.co/q2vAZQbWC4 — Harbhajan Turbanator (@harbhajan_singh) June 17, 2024 As Kirsten submitted his resignation as Pakistan’s white-ball coach, a fan reminded everyone of the warning Harbhajan had given to Kirsten after taking up the job. Harbhajan too reacted to the said ‘reminder’ and shared a couple of laughing emojis. https://t.co/CidFLfTQO2 — Harbhajan Turbanator (@harbhajan_singh) October 29, 2024 The last few weeks, a lot of changes have taken place in the Pakistan team. After Pakistan’s defeat against England in the first Test at Multan, the PCB decided to change the entire selection committee. Pakistan went on to win the next two matches but questions still remain on the manner in which the board functions. Mohammad Rizwan has also replaced Babar Azam as the team’s new white-ball captain, another change that came into effect after Kirsten’s resignation. “…After We Lost To India In T20 World Cup”: Wade On Retirement Decision

Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade has revealed that his team’s defeat to India in the T20 World Cup earlier this year was probably the moment that ended his career, as it was the first time that the thought of retirement crossed his mind. India, led by skipper Rohit Sharma’s superb 41-ball 92, defeated the Aussies by 24 runs in a crucial Group 1 Super Eight match at St Lucia to book a semifinal berth and eventually went on to bag the title. “It (the thought about retirement) probably hit home after we lost against India. That was when I sat down and reflected that that was probably the end of my career. That was an emotional moment,” Wade, who announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday, told cricket.com.au Wade, who generally batted down the order in T20 Internationals, said the arrival of Josh Inglis as a wicketkeeper who could bat top of the order too influenced his decision. “The time was right for ‘Ingo’ (Josh Inglis) to come in. You can see what he’s done in the last few months that he’s been in the team as the No. 1 ‘keeper. He was certainly ready to come in and take that role. “They’re looking for maybe someone who can bat more top to middle order now as well, and that suits him well.” The Tasmanian also said he is unlikely to participate in the upcoming IPL mega auction as it will be tough to make himself available for the entire duration of the event. Wade has been a part of Gujarat Titans over the last two seasons. “I’m doing the ILT20, which will be straight after the BBL. I’m doing the Abu Dhabi T10, which leads straight into BBL. “So, I’m going over to Dubai at the end of this month. I’ve got some Tassie (Tasmania) one-dayers that I’ve been playing as well. I won’t be in the IPL,” said Wade, who will be Australia’s wicket-keeping and fielding coach during the white ball series against Pakistan. The BCCI has set a deadline till October 31 for the franchises to finalize their retentions. As this year will be a mega auction, the franchises are allowed to retain as many as six players, of which at least one has to be an uncapped Indian player. Lot of big names like KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant have been rumoured to be entering the auction pool.  Here are the Live Updates of the Indian Premier League 2025 Retentions:

McDavid’s Injury Puts Oilers In Tough Play-It-Safe Position

Connor McDavid Brian Bradshaw Sevald-Imagn Images Regardless of what is learned over the next 24 hours, the Edmonton Oilers will have a tough decision to make regarding Connor McDavid’s injury.  It’s too soon to know how severe the foot issue is after he fell awkwardly on Monday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. To get more information, McDavid travelled back to Edmonton to get imaging done. He’ll be formulating a plan with his people and the Oilers’ medical team. In the meantime, the Oilers called up Drake Caggiula and Noah Philp from AHL Bakersfield. It’s possible McDavid may only be sidelined for Thursday’s game against the Nashville Predators. However, things could be worse than originally feared if McDavid is out for a few weeks.  NEW: Oilers Reveal Connor McDavid Injury Update Captain Connor will miss one game in the very least. @TheHockeyNews @EdmontonOilers#LetsGoOilers https://t.co/AN256rIwkz — Caleb Kerney (@CKerneyWriter) October 29, 2024 Regardless, the Oilers have some decisions to make about his recovery. Whether he’s medically cleared right away or not, the team might want to keep him out a little longer just to be sure.  It’s a difficult spot to be in. The NHL’s best player missing games will put significant stress on the rest of the roster to step up. Add that to the Oilers’ poor start, and it’s a lot to ask of players who have, to date, struggled offensively.  The defense is also facing major issues to the point that a report from TSN’s Darren Dreger suggests GM Stan Bowman is “aggressively” scouring the trade market for a top-four blueliner. Can the Oilers afford to keep McDavid out, knowing the team is having trouble maintaining pace with the NHL’s top teams? It feels like deja vu, in a way. McDavid suffered an upper-body injury last October that kept him out for a week. He was expected to miss the Heritage Classic against the Calgary Flames on Oct. 29, 2023, but he returned earlier than expected. That said, he recorded two assists in his first six games after returning before picking up the pace. Rushing McDavid back, even if he seems ready, is risky. McDavid will want to help his team get out of this early jam, but further injury would be a huge disappointment. The hope from an organizational standpoint is that the rest of the team can pick up the slack to give their star player extra time to rest up and return at 100 percent.  It might mean a bigger hole than the Oilers are already in, but so be it.  Related: Handling Zach Hyman’s Inevitable Drop-Off with the Oilers The Oilers Can’t Rush Any Decision Whether it’s bringing McDavid back early or making a trade to try and find extra ammunition, the Oilers have to resist the temptation to make a panic move just because they’re not in a playoff spot right now. It would be easy to jump the gun and add a defenseman or another forward, but doing so opens up an entirely different can of worms. Salary cap concerns, giving up assets and finding the right fit all require decisions that can’t be made hastily. Not to mention, the rest of the league now knows the Oilers might be nervous. Bowman can’t operate from a position of weakness. The best bet is to play it safe, wait this McDavid situation out and do what the team can internally to limit the damage. From there, be confident that whatever hole gets dug while McDavid is away won’t be too deep. Edmonton was able to make a miraculous comeback last season. They can do it again should they have to.  Get the latest news and trending stories right to your inbox by subscribing to The Hockey News newsletter here. RCB Drop Big KL Rahul Hint Ahead Of IPL 2025 Retention Announcements

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) need a wicket-keeper batter after the retirement of Dinesh Karthik. With KL Rahul all but set to be released by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the India star has been linked with a return to RCB, a franchise he started his IPL career with. Being a local boy, Rahul is undoubtedly a natural choice for the spot behind the stumps for the Royal Challengers. However, the auction dynamics don’t make it easy for any franchise to go out and get a player of its choice. Yet, RCB dropped a massive hint ahead of the IPL retention announcements. In a video shared by the Bengaluru franchise, Rahul was the only non-RCB player seen as the team’s bosses discussed retention and auction dynamics. The presence of Rahul in the video sent fans on social media buzzing, with many suggesting that the LSG star’s cameo in the video all but confirms RCB’s intention. “We will be looking at specific roles” KL Rahul’s Homecoming is almost done, RCB will Go all out from him https://t.co/J5heo6Rw9C pic.twitter.com/NNggRlOvhA — (@KLfied_) October 29, 2024 Of the players that RCB are likely to retain, the names of Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Mohammed Siraj have arguably garnered the most attention. The franchise also has overseas options like skipper Faf du Plessis, Will Jacks and Glenn Maxwell to consider. It is quite likely the Bengaluru side would go after some of these players through Right To Match in the auction, if not retained. RCB’s likely retentions ahead of IPL 2025 auction: – Virat Kohli: Batsman (INR 18 crore) – Mohammed Siraj: Bowler (INR 14 crore) – Will Jacks: All-rounder (INR 14 crore) – Yash Dayal: Bowler (Uncapped, INR 4 crore) Captaincy also remains a big issue for RCB if Du Plessis isn’t retained or bought back in the auction. But, if the franchise manages to buy KL Rahul in the auction, he doesn’t just solve the problem of a reliable wicket-keeper batter but can also be seen as a leadership option. However, there are also suggestions that Virat Kohli could be interested to take up the franchise’s captaincy again. This is another facet of the game that RCB would need to consider.

“Has To Prove He’s Viv Richards”: Ramiz Raja Sets Bold Target For Babar Azam

Former Pakistan cricketer and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja feels that star batter Babar Azam has yet to achieve his best in the Test format. Babar was rested for the last two Tests against England after his poor form. Pakistan won both the matches and secured the series 2-1, the first under Shan Masood’s rein. In 55 Tests, Babar has scored 3,997 runs at an average of 43.92. However, he has not scored a Test half-century since 2022 and has seen a dip in form in a year where he was made captain and then left the post after Pakistan suffered a group-stage exit in this year’s T20 World Cup in June. Talking about Babar’s recent form, Raja feels that former captain has to show that he has potential like legendary Viv Richards. “I feel Babar has to achieve a lot more in Test cricket. He plays the white-ball format really well, has an average of 50-plus in both the formats (T20I and ODI)…There is so much potential in Babar Azam,” said Raza on his YouTube channel. “Ab unko apne temperament se batana hai duniya mei ke woh ek Viv Richards hain (now he has to prove to the world with his temperament that he is Viv Richards). Bigger the contest, bigger the innings Richards used to play,” he added. Meanwhile, Babar will look to make his Test case strong with the stellar form in next month’s white-ball series against Australia. He was named in both ODI and T20I squads for the tour. It will be Pakistan’s first ODI since the World Cup 2023 where they failed to qualify for the semifinal under Babar’s captaincy finishing on the fifth spot. The right-handed batter was awarded ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year back-to-back in 2021 and 2022 respectively and continues to sit on the top of the ICC ODI batters rankings. His performance in the tour will decide his Test future with Pakistan set to tour South Africa and host West Indies for five Tests combined.
