Rohit Told To Leave Out Bumrah For Mumbai Test, Karthik Explains Reason

As the Indian cricket team stares at a whitewash against New Zealand, having already lost 2 matches of the series, captain Rohit Sharma has been sent a bold message to eave out Jasprit Bumrah. Arguably the finest pace bowler in the country, Bumrah hasn’t been effective as much as the team would’ve liked him to be on spin-friendly pitches against New Zealand. Ahead of the third Test in Wankhede, Dinesh Karthik has told the Indian team management to give Bumrah a rest ahead of the Australia tour. “Jasprit Bumrah definitely needs a rest without a doubt. That is happening, and you will see Mohammed Siraj come in. I can’t think of any other change unless someone has a niggle. I don’t see any reason why the batters who played this game or the bowlers should not get an opportunity,” Karthik told Cricbuzz. Washington Sundar was the top performer with the ball for India in the Pune Test that was primarily dominated by spinners. Yet, India failed to pull themselves level with a win, suffering a second straight loss to go 0-2 down in the series. While a knee jerk reaction isn’t expected from the Indain team ahead of the must-win Test in Wankhede, keeping the World Test Championship in mind, some changes are expected to be made with the XI. Karthik doesn’t think many changes would be made in India’s batting unit despite the woeful show in the first two matches. But, Mohammed Siraj replacing Jasprit Bumrha is a change that the former India wicket-keeper batter does see taking place. “The loss and the disappointment of the defeat are still weighing very heavily on my mind. I am not able to think very clearly about what the XI will be. It’s too short a notice to be honest. But if I had to think straight away, I would say rest Bumrah and bring back Siraj,” Karthik added.

Pure Skill Or Role Players: What Is The Best Way To Pick A Roster For 4 Nations Face-Off?

As the NHL and NHL Players’ Association’s 4 Nations Face-Off is coming up in February, there’s an ongoing debate about the makeup of the tournament’s teams. In particular, there are people in the hockey world who wonder if talent-rich teams like Canada and the United States are going to stock their roster with the very best talent at each position or whether team management will take a different tact and utilize some players who would be there to fill a specific need. That latter method has been used to great success by best-on-best teams. Remember Rob Zamuner? He was far from a superstar when he was named to Team Canada for the 1998 Olympic Games, but he served as a role player due to his stellar defensive ability and prowess in the faceoff circle. Of course, Canada finished fourth in the Olympics with that roster, but that was hardly Zamuner’s fault. Similarly, Team Canada could opt for several role-specific roster spots for the 4 Nations Face-Off. For instance, would Tampa Bay Lightning center Anthony Cirelli be in the top 20-25 spots based solely on his all-around talent? Probably not, right? But Cirelli might make the 4 Nations roster specifically because he’s one of the sport’s better penalty-killers and face-off men. That said, who would you leave off Canada’s team so that there’s room for Cirelli? Steven Stamkos? Nick Suzuki? Regardless, you’re going to hear and feel a backlash from fans of anyone who doesn’t cut. And the only thing that will shut those critics up is a first-place finish. In addition, look at Team U.S.A.’s projected roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off. We picked four stars to play center for the Americans: Toronto’s Auston Matthews, New Jersey’s Jack Hughes, Vegas’ Jack Eichel, and Buffalo’s Tage Thompson. But that would leave off a veteran like Vancouver’s J.T. Miller. What would change if you left Thompson off the roster and used Miller instead? Miller has penalty-killing experience, and Thompson doesn’t. So if you put Miller on the fourth line and didn’t pick Thompson for the team, how much more well-rounded of a team would you get? You can see where we’re going with this, right? Related: ‘They Should Have Kept It Simple’: Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off Jersey Receives Mixed Reviews Certainly, some 4 Nations Face-Off teams don’t have the luxury of being picky when it comes to their roster composition. Finland and Sweden almost assuredly will be picking strictly based on elite talent. But the Americans and Canadians have much deeper pools of skill to draw from, and that means there will be plenty of opportunity for second-guessing. Canadian GM Don Sweeney and U.S. counterpart Bill Guerin have their work cut out for them, and their competitive strategies in terms of team makeup will have no shortage of critics, no matter which route they choose. It’s relatively easy for teams to go first and foremost with pure talent. But there’s a history in the game of being more selective with the types of players teams utilize, and we may see that more nuanced approach in the 4 Nations Face-Off. Canada and America are fortunate to have so many options for the tournament, but that can be a double-edged sword. And if things don’t go as planned, those roster decisions will linger and haunt those involved for the rest of their lives. Dak Prescott blames himself for “boneheaded” interception

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott blamed his own two interceptions for his team’s loss to the 49ers on Sunday night. Asked what he has to do better, Prescott answered, “Not turn the ball over, period.” Prescott said a great leaping interception by San Francisco’s Ji’Ayir Brown never should have happened and Prescott should have thrown it away if he couldn’t get it to receiver CeeDee Lamb. “I don’t have to be perfect, but I damn sure can’t be having the turnovers,” Prescott said. “I’ve just got to eat that, take that sack. The second one was as boneheaded of an interception as I feel like I’ve had. Trying to make a play, too much confidence in myself right there. Should’ve just thrown it away. Wish I would’ve put more heat on it so it would’ve been to CeeDee or out of bounds. That one hurts, starting off the third quarter that way, allowed them to get a touchdown there, you look at the end at the score, a touchdown’s the difference. Once again, we put ourselves behind on the turnover battle, and that’s on me. We can’t have that if we’re playing to win games, and I’ve got to clean that up. Period.” Prescott now has eight interceptions through seven games this season and is on pace to set a new career-high with 19 interceptions this season. Prescott is right, he has to clean that up.

Trevon Diggs confronts reporter who questioned his effort on a key play

Things are not going well in Dallas. Sunday night’s loss to the 49ers was punctuated by cornerback Trevon Diggs — who declined to talk to reporters in the locker room — confronting a reporter in the hallway at Levi’s Stadium. Mike Leslie of WFAA had reposted video of Diggs seemingly not going all out in an effort to tackle 49ers tight end George Kittle during a second quarter catch-and-run. “What is Trevon Diggs doing on this play?” Leslie asked on Twitter. Newy Scruggs posted the video of the exchange between Diggs and Leslie. “That’s what you took from that?” Diggs said. “Out of that whole play, that’s what you took from that? You don’t know football. You can’t do nothing that I do. You can’t go out there and do nothing. Stay in your lane, buddy. Stop trying me, dog.” “Just asking the question, Trevon,” Leslie said. “I mean, I’m happy to have you answer the question.” “Out of that whole play, that’s what you took from that? That’s what you got from that? Out of that whole play, that’s what you got from that?” “We can talk about it more,” Leslie said. And then came the hammer from Diggs as he walked away: “Talk about deez nuts.” It’s never a good look for the player to do what Diggs said, especially when the reporter asked a fair question. What was Diggs doing? If he had talked to reporters in the locker room (as required by league rules), the question could have been formally asked and answered. And while Cowboys owner Jerry Jones generally embraces any and all attention his team can muster, this definitely isn’t the good kind of attention.

Are You Ready For India vs Afghanistan at 8pm?

The draw for the second round of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Barbados, where India will begin its Super 8s campaign, is ideal, according to Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid. Their group includes Australia, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, so getting to the semifinals should be easy. In the Twenty20 International rankings, several rivals are rated lower than India, including Australia (ranked No. 2). On the table, Bangladesh (ranked No. 9) and Afghanistan (ranked No. 10) are far lower. India will play Afghanistan at Kensington Oval on Thursday. Afghanistan is recognized for being a formidable opponent, having already upset New Zealand, a side that is well-known for its reliable results in ICC games, in the first round. The Kiwis had not made it out of that attack. Afghanistan is also more familiar with the environment, having played all of its games in the Caribbean. India, on the other hand, will play their first match in the West Indies tomorrow. Not only can they learn how to handle the strain of T20 cricket, but several of Afghanistan’s players have also refined their abilities in the Indian Premier League. Afghanistan has shown significant progress in the last few years. Known for their powerful bowling, they can now challenge any assault because of their impressive batting development. Even though they are rated 10th in the world, they are not to be taken lightly since they have a reputation for punching above their weight. Yet there is some justification for India’s top rating. They have a versatile squad that can play well against any side in any situation. They can bench a batsman of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s calibre. In the ICC rankings, he is ranked seventh, behind only Suryakumar Yadav. The result will mostly depend on how successfully the Indian hitters handle Afghanistan’s spinners, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed, and Mohammed Nabi. The pitch at The Oval in Bridgetown has lately suited batters. For players like Shivam Dube, who is being specially trained for this challenge, the idea of taking them on might be very alluring. To consistently challenge the opponent with a left-right combination—an attribute that past Indian teams lacked—he must step up in the middle order. It is also anticipated that Virat Kohli will step up. After three poor World Cup performances, many are expecting him to do well. He had not let a single sinew at the nets go unstrained over the last two days. A hungry Kohli is about to deliver a massive blow, and what more could India want from their great opener than a solid start?

All You Need To Know About UEFA EURO 2024

The 17th UEFA European Championship will take place in 2024, and Germany will host the event for the second time, following 1988. On June 15, the opening match of UEFA Euro 2024 pits hosts Germany vs. Scotland. This is the first time a major international competition has been held in Germany since the FIFA World Cup in 2006. Italy, the reigning champions, will face strong competition from Group B’s Spain, Croatia, and Albania if they want to advance at all. Legendary German player Toni Kroos has decided to make a final run at the Euros, while Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo may also be playing their last games. The structure remains the same: the top two teams from each of the six groups go to the Round of 16, as do the top four teams from the third division. On July 15, the Final will be held in Berlin’s Olympiastadion. What are the UEFA Euro 2024 Groups? Group A: Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, and Scotland Group B: Italy, Spain, Croatia, and Albania Group C: England, Denmark, Serbia, and Slovenia Group D: France, Netherlands, Austria, and Poland Group E: Belgium, Ukraine, Romania, and Slovakia Group F: Portugal, Turkey, Czech Republic, and Georgia What is the UEFA Euro 2024 format? UEFA Euro 2024 will feature six groups (A to F) with four teams each, similar to the 2016 and 2020 tournaments. The top four teams in each group go to the knockout round, while the top two from each group advance to the Round of 16. The customary quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship stages—with one leg for each tie—come after the Round of 16. Which venues are going to hold the 2024 UEFA Euro? The UEFA Euro 2024 matches will take place in ten stadiums throughout Germany. The semi-finals will take place on July 10 and 11 at Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion (commonly known as Signal Iduna Park) and Munich’s Allianz Arena, with the final taking place in Berlin’s Olympiastadion on July 15. All but one of the 10 stadiums—Dusseldorf’s Merkur Spiel-Arena—had previously played home to matches during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Amazingly, each stadium can accommodate more than 45,000 people. Here is the full list of stadiums for UEFA Euro 2024: 1. Olympiastadion, Berlin 2. Allianz Arena, Munich 3. Westfalenstadion, Dortmund 4. MHPArena, Stuttgart 5. Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen 6. Waldstadion, Frankfurt 7. Volksparkstadion, Hamburg 8. Merkur Spiel-Arena, Dusseldorf 9. RheinEnergieStadion, Cologne 10. Red Bull Arena, Leipzig Which group of players has the most UEFA European Championship victories? With three each, Germany and Spain have shared the record for most UEFA Euro victories. West Germany emerged victorious in 1972, 1980, and 1996. Before their golden age, which saw them win back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2012, Spain won the second-ever Euro in 1964. Each of France and Italy has two championships. Every country has one title: Portugal, Greece, Denmark, the Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, and the Soviet Union. In the history of the UEFA Euros, who player has scored the most goals? The greatest player in UEFA Euro history is Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, with 14 goals overall—five more than any other player. With nine goals, all of which he scored in the 1984 tournament on his way to France’s first Euros championship, legendary player Michel Platini sits in second place. But French sensation Antoine Griezmann, who is now tied for third place with seven goals, and England’s Alan Shearer will be vying to surpass Platini’s total.

Are You Ready For IND vs. IRE Head-To-Head Record

India’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign begins at the Nassau County Stadium against Ireland in New York. When Rohit Sharma names his squad at the toss, many issues will be resolved. Chief among them is whether Virat Kohli or Yashasvi Jaiswal would face him in the opening position. To win the championship, Rohit and Kohli will be driven. Both players have had setbacks as players and leaders since they were a part of India’s final triumph in an International Cricket Council (ICC) competition in 2013. In particular, Rohit turned 37 earlier this year, meaning that this may be his final opportunity to win a second T20 World Cup title—he took home the trophy in the tournament’s 2007 debut. Then there’s the side tale of India’s greatest batsman, Rahul Dravid, the head coach who is leaving. India fielded a strong side in the 2023 World Cup under the previous captain of that country, and they crushed opponents in the final. Despite being one of the best Test sides in the world, India was defeated by Australia in the World Test Championship final the previous year. Since Dravid has stated that he will not be staying on as head coach of the senior Indian side after the event, the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies will be his final opportunity to capture an ICC trophy. Head-To-Head Statistics India and Ireland have squared off seven times, with the former emerging victorious each time. India has won all three of the one-day internationals (ODIs) that the two teams have played in, meaning that they have never lost an international match against Ireland. The best-run scorer in this T20I match is former Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie, who scored 156 runs in six innings (138.05. With 151 runs at a strike rate of 175.58 in just two innings, India’s Deepak Hooda is in second place. With 149 runs scored at a strike rate of 137.96 in three innings, Rohit ranks third among the players who will be playing in New York in terms of run scoring. Craig Young, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav are equal for the most wickets in this match with seven. With six wickets, Jasprit Bumrah is ranked second.

Bruins Win in Triple-OT Drama to Advance to Game

On Sunday, June 11, the Boston Bruins defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 at the TD Garden in what turned out to be a historic triple-overtime match that lasted 119 minutes and 26 seconds. Deafening roar erupted as the crucial Game 6 clash began at 8:05 pm ET, with Beantown’s beloved Bruins hoping to avoid elimination and force a decisive 7th game in the Eastern Conference Finals. What was happening was a contest for all ages between two of hockey’s biggest names. Boston came out swinging in the first period, giving Lightning goalkeeper Andrei Vasilevskiy a ton of excellent scoring opportunities. But the frontrunner for the Vezina Trophy was up to the challenge, making a string of desperate stops to hold the game 0-0 for the first twenty minutes. At the 5:28 mark of the second, Steven Stamkos’ one-timer from the left circle on the power play eventually snapped the tie between Tampa and Minnesota. The exquisite passing of the Lightning had shredded the Bruins’ penalty-killing team.   But Boston appeared to come alive after the goal, answering in only 38 seconds with a deflection seeing-eye goal from the point by Jake DeBrusk. Just enough of the puck’s trajectory was altered by Patrice Bergeron’s skillful tip to trick Vasilevskiy. All of regulation time was spent in an extremely tense, defense-first chess battle. Both sides tensed up at their respective creases, committing players to block shots and keeping the other team from having any prolonged offensive zone time.   Every puck battle in all three zones, which has long been the trademark of playoff hockey, took on immense significance as each heavyweight fighter attempted to deliver the finishing blow. The excitement was only increased by a plethora of excruciating near-misses involving players like as David Pastrnak, Nikita Kucherov, and Brayden Point. Both teams had given it their all on the legendary TD Garden rink, and when the third period buzzer mercifully sounded with the score tied at one, they could hardly stand. They had no idea that their titanic struggle had only just begun.   There was more end-to-end action in the first overtime session as Ullmark made consecutive crucial stops on Alex Killorn and Steven Stamkos to keep Boston in the game. On the other hand, trade deadline addition Tyler Bertuzzi found himself clean in the slot and roofed his opportunity over Vasilevskiy’s glove as the Bruins eventually took advantage of a defensive zone mistake. Cue the thunderous chaos from the boisterous Boston supporters as the team came within twenty minutes of requiring a seventh game. However, in line with a match that would exemplify the phrase “roller-coaster ride,” Tampa responded nearly instantly with a seeing-eye wrister from Mikhail Sergachev at 3:11.   During the second overtime session at TD Garden, the tension was unbearable, with fans appearing to be constrained to the edge of their seats. After more than a hundred minutes of fighting, fatigue set in, and the smallest mistake in positioning may have a dramatic effect on the result. In a goalie display for the ages, Ullmark and Vasilevskiy combined to make 94 stops, almost supernaturally determined to deny a string of glorious opportunities.   In the end, after more than two whole games of gladiatorial battle, one last valiant moment was critical in ending the impasse and giving Boston a chance to redeem themselves. After the Bruins’ relentless forecheck eventually began to wear down Tampa’s defense, Pastrnak had enough time and space inside the right circle to find his place and fire his trademark one-timer upstairs, sending the Garden into disbelief.   Players from both teams just dropped where they were or flung off their equipment in simultaneous waves of happiness and destruction as the black-and-gold believers unleashed an ear-splitting flood of delight. After an eight-hour struggle, head coaches Jim Montgomery and Jon Cooper—two fighters in their own right—only nodded their heads in confused acceptance of the instant classic they had just fought. “I’ve never been as proud of our leadership group and whole roster after a performance like that,” Montgomery said. “To hang in there for that long against one of the NHL’s premier teams and keep pushing for that third goal – that’s the kind of character and will you need to be successful in the playoffs.”   The fact that the Lightning trailed the series 3-1 made the double-whammy of losing such a long game and having to play a winner-take-all Game 7 all the more devastating for the vanquished team. “It’s a cruel way to end that one after the heart both teams showed,” Cooper said. “It will hurt for a while now, but in the long run, I think this will rank among the best games in recent memory. Boston won’t be playing kind on Wednesday, so we’ll need to regain our energy fast.”   Indeed, the culmination of an incredible playoff series between two very competing teams will be Wednesday night’s Game 7 in Tampa. Some may bemoaning the lack of consecutive complete rest for such an event, but both fighters will be thrilled at the opportunity to pen yet another chapter in what has already proven to be an unprecedentedly dramatic tale. A generational demonstration of hockey’s ability to produce high-stakes drama and exceptional performances under duress has already been shown to the thousands of fans in attendance and the millions watching on television around the globe.   The triple-overtime classic in Game 6 perfectly captured everything that makes playoff hockey so unique: Superhuman willpower, unparalleled emotional fluctuations, and breathtaking skill that leave you hanging on the tip of your seat, wanting more. All of it fought at the greatest level possible between two incredibly skilled and proud teams that embodied the essence of their respective communities. Hockey enthusiasts, buckle up and drink up. Because when these fierce rivals play winner-take-all in two nights, we’re undoubtedly in for another epic after seeing an all-time classic like Sunday’s amazing matchup in Boston.

Anglo Argentine Polo Match | 24x7 Sportshub
Polo

At the 128th Argentine Open, Argentina reigns supreme.

The 128th Argentine Open, the most famous tournament on the world polo calendar, came to an exciting finale on Sunday, November 19, when Argentina overcame the United States 14–12 in the championship match held at the Palermo fields in Buenos Aires. On a scorching summer’s day in the Argentine capital, the much-awaited championship match got underway at 4:30 p.m. local time, with the renowned Cathedral of Polo serving as a perfect background. Over 30,000 passionate spectators packed the grandstands and lined the fields, igniting an electrifying atmosphere worthy of the most coveted award in sports.  Argentina’s formidable squad, consisting of Adolfo Cambiaso, Pablo MacDonough, Juan Martín Nero, and Jeta Castagnola, made it clear from the start that they meant business at home. They surged out of the gates to establish a 4-1 lead against the States at the end of the opening chukka, working together telepathically.  But in the second quarter, the Americans stabilized themselves brilliantly to create a serious battle out of it. They ended the second chukker with a 5-4 disadvantage, led by the legendary Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras and his reliable companions Juan Britos, Keko Magrini, and Diego Cavanagh. What came next was a polo classic performed in scorching heat with the utmost ferocity. Amid the thundering crack of bamboo on bamboo and the thudding of horse hooves, two quartets of elite athletes engaged in blow-for-blow combat, striving to grab any small edge. Amid their remarkable careers, Cambiaso and Figueras, two legendary athletes, constituted the centre of the intense activity. The Argentine was able to waltz thanks to his incredible stickwork and quickness.  However, Figueras, his old colleague, was using all of his big-game prowess to serve as the Americans’ lucky charm. He was galloping the length of the field on his magic mares to make many crucial scoring plays that kept his team in the lead. As the match entered its last two chukkas, it was still quite close. However, everything went wrong when Magrini was seriously injured in a hard collision. The brave American was taken to the hospital on a stretcher after a long wait.  Both sets of players were feeling the physical strain and pressure of the big game when play eventually started, and emotions were running high. The two sides’ opposing styles were fascinating to see, as Argentina’s deft passing game contrasted with the U.S.’s relentless counterattacking prowess. Argentina demonstrated why they have been the dominant power in polo for years by withstanding wave after wave of American onslaught and then delivering the decisive punch on the counter as the drama reached its climax in the last chukka.  When there were less than three minutes left and the scores were tied at 12, Cambiaso produced one of his signature magical plays. He picked up the ball off his saddlery, split the American defence, and then buried an almost impossible-looking neck shot from an almost perfect angle into the opposition’s goal. The passionate supporters of Argentina burst into applause upon witnessing their idol land a potentially game-winning strike. Shortly after, MacDonough scored the game’s last point to make it 14–12, igniting wild celebrations both on and off the field.  Cambiaso and Nero led the hugs with their heartbroken American opponents, who were left sprawled on the field fatigued by their enormous efforts over 110 agonizing minutes when the final hooter thankfully sounded. The crowded Palermo bleachers became a bouncing, serenading mass of wild ecstasy as the Argentine players conducted a lap of honour. In the past ten years, this was their team’s seventh Argentine Open victory. The United States is still waiting for its first championship since 1987.  A moved Cambiaso remarked later, “I’m just so proud of these boys and what they’ve achieved in front of our people today.” Since we were little children, all of us have wanted to play this game. Like the Americans, we threw everything out there. Being a part of such an amazing war was an honour.” Figueras, devastated, said to himself, “That’s just Argentine polo for you.” In the most important times, they were overly reliant. However, I’ve never been more pleased with this set of athletes for putting their all on the line. We’ll learn from this and return even more determined next year, but today wasn’t our day.”  The legendary venue can accommodate well over 50,000 spectators when you consider the expansive outside fields and amenities that compose Argentina’s revered ‘cathedral’ of polo, even if the Palermo grounds only housed over 30,000 during the event itself. Palermo’s characteristic boisterous atmosphere was created by the devoted “field Argentinos,” who followed every angle, pawing over every action blade while bathed in coursing asado smoke and freely flowing beers.  One glorious Pampas evening, as twilight was falling, an invading flood of humans emerged from the fields in a raucous yet euphoric way, their Sunday having been spent respectfully eating the pinnacle of their cherished ‘deporte de Reyes y rey de deportes’ (sport of kings and king of sports). In one of the sport’s finest finals, two teams of top riders showcased their mastery of polo’s unique subtleties and physical extremes for the 6.5 million viewers who tuned in globally, including a primetime TV audience in the States. Although Argentina’s quarter deservedly garnered attention for their historic triumph, the lessons learned from this epic Anglo-Argentine match will only serve to further ignite Polo’s rapidly expanding worldwide fan base.  This was a demonstration, both on and off the Palermo grounds, of polo’s eternal ability to enthral as few other athletic events can. Prepare the horses and cue the asados—this isn’t the last time that a true polo classic’s theatre and drama will wow the globe.

Celtics Vs Bucks | 24x7 Sportshub
Basketball

A triple-OT thriller sees the Celtics defeat the Bucks in an instant classic.

On Tuesday, April 3, the Boston TD Garden hosted an incredible game that left spectators in awe as the Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics battled into triple overtime, with the home team winning 135-131 in the end.  With a 63-minute marathon that featured everything from bone-crunching physicality to jaw-dropping shotmaking to white-knuckle drama and even a fan incident that threatened to prematurely end proceedings, the Eastern Conference heavyweights reignited their legendary rivalry appropriately. There was a boisterous atmosphere when the nationally broadcast match began at 7:30 p.m. ET, with the Celtics supporters cheering their side on against the reigning champs. Boston jumped out to a 29-19 lead in the first quarter thanks to a flurry of three-pointers.  But before halftime, Giannis Antetokounmpo and company showed their championship toughness by bringing the team back to balance. The Bucks tied the game at 52 points apiece at halftime thanks to the Greek Freak’s strong runs to the basket. In a tight, defence-first contest, both sides traded blows in the third and fourth quarters, with no team able to gain a significant lead. As regulation time was out, the score was still tied at 104-104, setting up a matchup in the extra session that would push both teams’ stamina to the brink.  During the first overtime, Jayson Tatum and Antetokounmpo alternated as the heroes and produced a string of cold-blooded, contested baskets that forced a 112-112 tie after five minutes. A fan ran directly at the Boston bench at the beginning of the second overtime period before being stopped by security personnel. After a pause to make sure everything was safe, play picked back up even faster as both teams used every last bit of energy. In the waning seconds of the game, the Bucks led 127-124 and seemed to have finally delivered the game-winning punch. However, Marcus Smart had other plans. With just 1.3 seconds remaining, he buried an absurd tree to somehow send it to a third overtime at 127-127. The devoted supporters at TD Garden were rewarded with even more unfathomably dramatic action in the pivotal third overtime period as the clock approached midnight. The game turned into an ugly foul fest as players from both teams were visibly tired and cramping up, desperately trying to get the upper hand. With little over a minute left, Jaylen Brown made the greatest play of the game, getting a charge on Giannis to give Boston the crucial possession after Antetokounmpo astonishingly missed three consecutive free throws.  After 63 incredible minutes of playoff-calibre energy, Tatum dutifully made a driving layup, and Bucks guard Khris Middleton’s attempted game-tying three in the final seconds was unsuccessful as the Celtics ultimately triumphed 135-131. Both teams embraced in the middle of the court and grinned broadly, weary, as the buzzer thankfully rang to finish the instant classic. Players from both sides sprawled themselves over benches, tables, and courtside floors as the crowd erupted in thunderous acclaim, trying to recover from the battle of attrition they had just fought.  Ultimately, Boston’s scoring balance was sufficient to outlast Middleton and Antetokounmpo of Milwaukee. Tatum scored 34 crucial points despite going only 6 for 24 from the field, with contributions from Brown and Smart of 32 and 27, respectively. With 24 rebounds and another incredible 41-point performance, the Greek Freak was well supported by Middleton’s 36. However, in the end, the two did not receive enough assistance, and the Celtics were able to make clutch plays thanks to a few extra players.  Boston’s triumph was bittersweet since they lost defensive captain Robert Williams in the first half to what seemed to be a serious leg injury. The big man’s and his team’s reaction to that heartbreaking loss now stands as a major pivotal point in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The losing Bucks will need some time to process their loss and concentrate on prolonging their run of consistent success behind Antetokounmpo. Even if they are heartbreaking, these kinds of games are precisely the type of battle-tested training a team needs to pursue a repeat title.  But more than anything, the Boston-Milwaukee instant classic acted as the perfect platform for the NBA’s unmatched drama and timeless greatness. Fans were treated to a relentless thrill ride showcasing the greatest levels of skill, toughness, and competitive fire from start to finish, from 7:30 p.m. to 12:48 a.m. Every drop of sweat from both sides was left on the recognizable parquet flooring. Ultimately, the Celtics were able to find that extra bit to outlast their opponents in a game that will go down in Boston’s rich basketball history as an all-time classic.   Fans keep shelling out top bucks and dedicating their hearts to this amazing sport because of games like this. Even if winning titles and making it to the playoffs is always the ultimate aim, memorable regular-season games like Tuesday nights are what leave an indelible mark on basketball history.
