Kane Williamson | 24x7Sportshub
Cricket, News

Kane Williamson will not join New Zealand’s squad for the India tour, as selectors provide a worrying update just days before the first Test.

New Zealand endured a severe setback ahead of their Test series against India, as top batsman Kane Williamson is a major concern owing to a groin injury. Selector Sam Wells stated that Williamson would miss the first part of the tour and stay in New Zealand to recuperate after suffering the injury during the second test against Sri Lanka. The Black Caps, who are already under strain due to their recent troubles in the longest version of the game, have additional reason to be concerned about this. “The advice we’ve received is that the best course of action is for Kane to rest and recover now, rather than risk aggravating the injury,” Wells said, underscoring the significance of Kane Williamson’s recuperation. While the team is still optimistic that Kane Williamson will make a comeback later in the series, his early absence severely hurts New Zealand’s prospects of winning at home against an excellent Indian side. Uncapped all-rounder Mark Chapman, who has performed well in white-ball forms and is regarded as a potent spin bowler, has been called up by New Zealand to fill in for Williamson. Chapman’s inclusion is meant to cover for Kane Williamson’s absence because of his subcontinental knowledge, particularly against India’s formidable spin attack. Wells stated, “We think Mark is one of our best spin players and has a proven track record in the sub-continent.” To make matters worse for New Zealand, they enter the India series coming off a four-match losing run after being soundly defeated 2-0 by Sri Lanka. The fact that they have never won a Test series in India only serves to exacerbate their current woes in the cricket format. After Tim Southee resigned as captain after the Sri Lankan debacle, opener Tom Latham would also serve as team captain. Bracewell departs following the first test. Additionally, Michael Bracewell will only be available for Bengaluru’s first Test before having to travel home to give birth to his second child. Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi, who was born in India, will take Bracewell’s position for the remaining two tests in Pune and Mumbai. He brings experience from the subcontinent to the table. Other than adding Chapman and Sodhi, the team is almost the same as it was during the series defeat to Sri Lanka. On October 16, New Zealand will take on India in a series that will try to break their long-standing bad record on the subcontinent. For more latest updates, visit www.24x7sportshub.com.

Evanilson scores his first Premier League goal in Bournemouth’s win over Southampton.

Evanilson, a record-breaking acquisition for Bournemouth, scored the first goal of his career as the Cherries defeated Southampton 3-1 on Monday. In the first 39 minutes, the Brazilian international set off a three-goal barrage for the home team, including goals from Antoine Semenyo and Dango Ouattara. Although the Saints scored a goal early in the second half through Taylor Harwood-Bellis, they are still in the bottom three and have not won since returning to the Premier League. Bournemouth’s second victory of the season moves them up to 11th place, above Manchester United. As the replacement for Dominic Solanke, who left for Tottenham last month for a club-record amount, Evanilson has a lot of work ahead of him. The 40 million-pound striker’s debut did not go well as Bournemouth’s last home game ended in a 1-0 loss to Chelsea due to his missed penalty. But on minute seventeen, he cast those memories to the wind by pouncing on a quickly taken free-kick by Marcus Tavernier. We had been anticipating this from Evanilson,” said Tommy Elphick, the deputy manager for Bournemouth filling in for suspended manager Andoni Iraola. “He runs so cute and is very intelligent. I’m happy for him since we haven’t been able to locate him enough.” Then Ouattara was in the ideal position to divert Aaron Ramsdale’s shot from Lewis Cook. Semenyo, who has filled the void left by Solanke, scored his third goal in six Premier League games this season with a ferocious drive that reached the bottom corner. For Southampton, it was a well-known story because their superior possession ratio did not translate into many points. After six games, Russell Martin’s team has just one point, placing them in second place. The first-half performance following the first goal has damaged me. Martin remarked, “I didn’t recognize our team.” “Neither bravery nor aggression was present. On the pitch, they scanned their surroundings and tried to save themselves. It wasn’t to my taste. In the second half, they battled, but it was too late.” For the first time since 1997–1998, all three of the promoted teams were relegated from the Premier League in the previous season. Preliminary data for this season also indicates that rising teams are finding it more and more difficult to bridge the gap between the Championship and the top division. Despite not winning any of their first six league games, Ipswich and Leicester are at least not in the bottom three. For the latest updates visit www.24x7sportshub.com.

International hockey returns to New Delhi | 24x7Sportshub

International hockey returns to New Delhi after a decade, and the India Legends share their reactions.

Harbinder Singh and Zafar Iqbal, ex-hockey greats of India are keen on attending the match between Indian Men’s National Hockey Team and Germany, which will take place at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. On October 23 and 24, India will compete against the silver medalists from the Olympics. With this event, international hockey is making its ten-year comeback to New Delhi, and several celebrities, including former hockey players, are anticipated to participate. The final instance of India playing at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium was during the Hero Hockey World League Final – Men’s Round 4 held in January 2014. The last time I played hockey for the national team in Delhi was in 1972. The Shivaji Stadium was crowded, as I recall, and the supporters were standing and applauding for us. I think a sizable crowd will go to support Germany and India as well. For all that, international first-class matches will be repeated only after ten years elapses,” said Harbinder Singh, an Olympic medallist of 3 editions from Gold in Tokyo in 1964, Bronze in Mexico in 1968, and Bronze in Munich in 1972. Padma Shri Harbinder Singh. Zafar Iqbal, the captain of the 1982 Asian Games silver-winning squad in Delhi and a gold medallist at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, also added his voice, stating, “Back in our era, hockey had an immense following.” We played in enormous stadiums, and events like the Asian Games, Nehru Gold Cup, and other international matches always drew large crowds and a tangible sense of anticipation. Indians will undoubtedly be cheering for us to defeat Germany since they are a strong team; we defeated them to earn the bronze medal at the Olympics in Tokyo and most recently lost to them in the Paris semifinals. The FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier and the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy were welcomed to Ranchi last year, while the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy was held in Chennai. The next Women’s Asian Champions Trophy will take place in November at Rajgir, a city in Bihar. Harbinder Singh praised Hockey India’s initiative to bring hockey to every part of the nation. “High profile matches ought to be staged in different locations throughout the country so that all and sundry get a chance to watch the team play live and in turn cultivate a following for the sport besides keeping our players active for crucial international contests,” Singh said. It used to be the case that the majority of the people thought that India was a team that leaked goals towards the end of matches, but that has changed now, we are the best in the world in every respect,” Zafar Iqbal said an appeal to supporters to come in large numbers. The amenities are excellent, and I do not doubt that there will be nonstop activity in the game. Additionally, I’d like to use this chance to extend an invitation to hockey fans to show up in large numbers in support of our team. For the latest updates visit www.24x7sportshub.com.

Kylian Mbappe-Less Real Madrid Return To Scene Of Last Defeat For Atletico Derby Clash

Spanish and European champions Real Madrid were invincible last season, except for the games they played against city rivals Atletico Madrid. The only feats that Los Blancos suffered were two inflicted by Diego Simeone’s team, which will entertain Real Madrid on Sunday for a hot La Liga derby. Atletico was the last team to beat Madrid in the league over a year, with Carlo Ancelotti’s men 39 games unbeaten since that loss. Additionally, the Rojiblancos booted Real Madrid out of the Copa del Rey this time in January 2024 in the round of 16, which is the only loss Madrid has suffered in this calendar year thus far. MBappe Kylian summer signing star of Real Madrid denies the team after suffering a thigh injury during the midweek win over Alaves, although, a gamut of attacking stars is still available. When it comes to abusive comments directed at Atletico’s supporters, it’s Junior Vinicius who is oftentimes the subject of verbal attacks, nevertheless, Very much so ahead of the derby, the Brazilian forward has been in great form, and forward Jude Bellingham might be burdened with more offensive duties. For Ancelotti, there is also the young striker Endrick who has so far shown his quality off the bench whenever he is called upon.  Real Madrid may opt to switch back to the 4-4-2 formation where Luka Modric can also fit in as an additional midfielder, instead of maintaining the 4-3-3 system that has been employed so far to lessen the impact of Atletico on Madrid. When the season began almost a year ago, Madrid could only manage a draw against Mallorca and Las Palmas in the first three league games. Now, Los Blancos have rattled five wins in a row in all competitions. Ancelotti was quoted this week as saying: “We are improving, and that is good for us as the schedule is quite hectic.” “We’ve been able to recover quite well, and we intend to carry on like that going into Sunday’s match, which is going to be very challenging.” The second-placed Madrid are in a four-point gap to the first-placed Barcelona and it might even be seven by the time the derby begins as Hansi Flick’s charges play against Osasuna on Saturday. Atletico are two points off the pace of Los Blancos heading into the encounter after a lucky last-gasp 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo courtesy of a Julian Alvarez goal in the 90th minute. “It’s a massive game for all of us… This week and this match are for preparation and strategy regarding the forthcoming events and the league in general,” Alvarez said in an interview. After Substituted for the match against Celta, the forward could start with coach Simeone having used Alvarez in many positions to this far. “He’s able to play in more than one position; he can operate as a striker, or even in the middle of the pitch, which allows us to use him differently,” the coach noted. Erik Ten Hag | 24x7Sportshub
Football, News

Erik Ten Hag was frustrated by a costly error in Manchester United’s Europa League draw with Twente.

After a costly mistake by Christian Eriksen condemned Manchester United to a 1-1 draw against FC Twente in their Europa League opening on Wednesday, Erik ten Hag blasted his team. Eriksen’s goal in the 35th minute gave United the lead, but at Old Trafford, the Danish midfielder gave Twente their equalizer in the second half. In the 68th minute, Sam Lammers took Eriksen’s dangerous turn under pressure and blasted past Andre Onana. Erik Ten, the manager of United, insisted that the team as a whole must accept responsibility for their inability to maintain the lead rather than singling out Eriksen. “At 1-0 up, we managed to keep them in the game. To maintain control, one must remain steady and persistent.” We lost the goal and decreased the level in the second half,” Ten Hag remarked. “We didn’t finish it off, we had to go for the second goal and so they stay alive and we get punished with a mistake from ourselves.” Erik Ten Hag continued, pressing Eriksen’s error: “The goal is (a) team (fault), a Twente player may dribble over the pitch without stopping. This is no way to give away a goal. “We have witnessed once more that you must continue playing the entire game; if you are ahead 1-0, you must press for the second goal. Since it’s the first game, winning is crucial.” Erik Ten Hag spent a combined 23 years at Twente during three periods as a player and then in different coaching capacities, remarking on the eve of the game: “It’s not nice to have to damage something you love. Rather, the discomfort was caused by the Eredivisie team, with assistance from another inconsistent United performance following their poor goalless draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday. After United’s dismal performance in European tournaments, which included just one victory in nine games, Eriksen questioned whether the team had enough ambition to play. As a team, I believe we were primarily dissatisfied because we expected much more and it wasn’t good enough. It can’t be true that they appeared to want it more,” Eriksen remarked. “I believe that everyone is focusing on themselves because they are all professional football players and understand what may and cannot happen. Even though we win, it still feels like a loss.” It was another depressing start to European competition for United, who finished last season bottom of their Champions League group with only one win. On Sunday, Ten Hag’s struggling club returns to action at Old Trafford against Tottenham. They play Porto in the redesigned Europa League first round before going up against Jose Mourinho’s former team, Fenerbahce. For the latest updates visit www.24x7sportshub.com.

A Tough Win For Man City Midfield This 2024. Will The Best Be Back | 24x7 Sportshub

A Tough Win For Man City Midfield This 2024. Will The Best Be Back?

Manchester City’s most valuable player, Rodri, was not able to help them win an unprecedented sixth-straight Premier League title. One of the front-runners for the Ballon d’Or, the midfielder, apparently sustained a significant knee injury in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal, raising questions over whether he will be able to play again this season. Rodri was seen coming to Barcelona on Monday; although City has not officially confirmed the extent of his injury, there are rumors that he is receiving additional testing. Despite all the discussion and analysis around the key moments in Sunday’s championship match, Rodri’s injury might end up having the most effect on the campaign. During the second part of Pep Guardiola’s tenure, Rodri has been the most important player for City. During this time, the team has won ten major trophies, including a treble and four straight league titles. Since February 2023, City has not lost a Premier League match that Rodri has started. Of the 11 games he has missed, four have ended in a loss. With Arsenal, the runners-up the past two seasons, breathing down their necks, these little margins might decide the title fight. Without him on the field, the outcome of the game on Sunday might have been different. After his removal, City played well at first but struggled in the second half with one man injured for Arsenal. They didn’t look exactly like themselves. There was an omission. A run of three games around this time last year serves as the ideal example of the issues City could face. Following their Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle, City lost in the league to Wolves and Arsenal before Rodri was suspended for a straight red card. Since Rodri’s 2019 transfer from Atletico Madrid, City has never had to deal with him being absent for an extended period. Playing more club games than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues throughout that time (260), he has been virtually constant. In world football, it’s difficult to find a player who has performed with such consistency. The fact that City has increased their dominance to unprecedented levels since he signed is no accident. Based on this limited sample size going back to last season, a city without Rodri wins 63% of its games, as opposed to 76% when he is there from the beginning. This is a decline, but it might be explained by the City’s natural dependence on Rodri. He’s always there, so they’ve never really needed to think about a backup plan. Guardiola will have to find a solution quickly if the City is unable to use him for an extended length of time. It would be improbable that he would not discover one. He has a lot of choices at his disposal. Since Mateo Kovacic has been the starting stand-in so far this season, he is the most obvious understudy. He replaced Rodri in the Arsenal match. But Guardiola is accustomed to throwing curveballs, so it’s feasible that he’ll adjust his team’s formation to compensate for the potential loss of their holding midfielder. In hybrid positions, we’ve seen Rico Lewis and John Stones move up into midfield. Only one week has passed since Rodri issued a warning about a possible player strike over the demanding and constantly expanding football schedule. He stated that the demands are getting to be too great.  “I think we are close to [a strike]. I think if you ask any player, he will say the same. It is not the opinion of Rodri or whatever. I think it’s the general opinion of the players. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but it’s something that worries us because we are the guys that suffer.” According to FIFPRO’s calculations, Rodri only had 22 days off throughout the 2023–2024 season. City advanced to the FA Cup final, lost the Champions League quarterfinals, and fought for the championship until the very end. Spain also had a great tournament at the Europeans. Rodri made his league debut against Arsenal on Sunday, as City managed his workload following a very demanding campaign. Maybe the final one for a long time. It remains to be seen how City manages. It may rank among their greatest achievements if they can overcome this possible setback and win five straight.

45th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2024: India Bagged The Rare Double Gold

With a decisive 3.5-0.5 victory over Slovenia, GMs Gukesh Dommaraju, Arjun Erigaisi, and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu helped the Indian men seal their triumph at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad. They ended four points ahead of five other teams, with GM Wesley’s lone victory helping the United States take second place. thus defeated China, and Uzbekistan gained bronze medals and a victory over France thanks to GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov. Armenia, Serbia, and China narrowly missed the podium.  In the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad for women, Team India also won gold for the first time, almost missing out in 2022 when competing at home. Following their commanding 3.5-0.5 victory over Azerbaijan, they watched Kazakhstan tie the U.S. team early on in the match on equal match points. A far more cynical team than India might have wrapped up the Olympiad gold with easy draws against Slovenia, but India simply carried on with its game-winning strategy and dominated the field. The squad destroyed Slovenia, and Uzbekistan and the United States earned silver and bronze medals, respectively, despite their close victories. India was virtually assured of gold medals heading into the final round, but that “almost” could be problematic from a psychological perspective. To FM Mike Klein, Gukesh said: “We were already feeling festive during yesterday’s team meeting. I have to admit that I was so excited after the game yesterday that I didn’t even want to play today. I hoped there wouldn’t be a game since I wanted to play. Although we were all ecstatic, we made ourselves come here, concentrate, complete the task, and then rejoice.” The cherry on top was a comeback victory for Praggnanandhaa, who had been the only member of the Indian team to lose the entire tournament. China was not going for the enormous win they would have needed in that scenario, as World Champion Ding Liren made a 10-move draw with White against Caruana, even though nominally they might still have won the gold. Given that only General Manager Levon Aronian was spared a rating point loss in Budapest, the outcome was excellent. Given that So appeared to be returning to his peak after winning the last two rounds, perhaps the outcome would have been different had he warmed up sooner. While defeating Praggnanandhaa had not prevented a loss to India, defeating GM Wei Yi, one of the event’s headliners, was an even bigger difference.   All of the top teams—aside from India—lost two games, and the outcome of the last round greatly affected the ultimate rankings. Though they lost on tiebreaks, Serbia’s 3.5-0.5 victory over Ukraine and Armenia’s 2.5-1.5 victory over Iran placed them in a tie for second place. GM Frederik Svane’s gold medal-winning 8/9 helped Germany overcome the teams tied for seventh place despite suffering severe losses early in the Olympiad. Given that the club started as the seventh seed, it made sense. Women Team At Chess Olympiad 2024 Except for the tie for first place with Russia at the 2020 Online Olympiad, it was an incredibly successful day for Indian chess as the women’s team also won a historic first gold. It was their second team medal at the Olympics, having won bronze in 2022. It was also the first time since 2018 that a nation had won both of the main Olympic prizes (last year it was China). The Indian women’s team lost to Poland in round eight after winning seven straight matches, in contrast to their male counterparts, who didn’t drop a single match. After a 2-2 draw with the United States, they triumphed over China and Azerbaijan to mount a formidable comeback. Kazakhstan finished with a silver medal after losing their match against India 2-2, which is not terrible at all for a team that was seeded tenth. (It was their very first team medal at the Olympics.) The United States took home bronze, their best finish since 2008 (also bronze). Their best performance before this was silver in 2004. GM Harika Dronavalli, who won over IM Gunay Mammadzada thanks to a decisive rook endgame, set the tone for India from the outset. The Azerbaijani player damaged her kingside unnecessarily by playing too passively, but Harika used a great endgame strategy to convert a drawn position into a full point. While GM Vaishali Rameshbabu drew her game to earn a very impressive 3.5 points out of four, IMs Divya Deshmukh and Vantika Agrawal also won. The Indian women were relieved to see that Kazakhstan was unable to defeat the American women, indicating that gold would be guaranteed this time. Harika was undoubtedly still thinking about the thrilling final day in Chennai, 2022, when India lost to the United States and dropped from first to third, earning bronze. “I’m extremely happy that finally I made it on the last day,” she stated. “This tournament has been a rollercoaster ride for me, but I’m happy that the girls have improved in key games. In the end, we all came together as a team and won the final game, which means a lot. We came here and played the best teams, so I think we deserve it.” India, not surprisingly, also took home the Gaprindashvili trophy, which honors GM Nona Gaprindashvili by rewarding the team with the greatest overall performance in both the women’s and open divisions. Kazakhstan had opportunities to defeat the United States, but doing so by a similar wide margin like India’s was always difficult. Two teens faced off on board four, with WIM Alua Nurman (17) winning a pawn while IM Alice Lee (15) botched a move and held the draw. Nurman felt rather at ease about it afterward, maybe since her IM standard score of 6.5/9 is not too bad.
