Day 1 Highlights: 14th Hockey India Sub Junior Men National Championship 2024

23 September 2024, Chandigarh: The opening day of the 14th Hockey India Sub Junior Men National Championship 2024 was held at the Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Sports Complex, Sector 42, Chandigarh. Various teams like Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, Hockey Punjab, Manipur Hockey, and Hockey Arunachal had performed and won their matches.

In the competition’s opening game, Dadra & Nagar Haveli And Daman & Diu Hockey defeated Goans Hockey 9-0 in Pool G. With three goals, Mithlesh Singh (6′, 25′, 27′) took the lead, followed by goals from Jitin (14′, 53′) and Sagar (36′, 49′). Captain Ravindra Pratap Yadav (56′) and Pawan Yadav (29′) also contributed. 

The Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu beat Hockey Gujarat in another match. In addition, Renjit, Sundarajith, Gowntham, and S Lakshmanan were the high scorers for Tamil Nadu. Tushal Sosa (5′, 18′) and Parmar Rajveer Bhupatbhai (9′, 51′) scored braces for Hockey Gujarat. 

In a Pool E fixture, Hockey Punjab beat Hockey Karnataka. Hockey Punjab displayed a strong team effort, led by the braces of Mandeep Singh (13′, 56′), Charanjeet Singh (14′, 47′), Gurwinder Singh (30′, 55′), and Amandeep (41′, 60′). Suprith G (27′) and Nitesh Sharma (3′) scored goals for Hockey Karnataka, respectively. 

Another Pool E match saw Manipur Hockey triumph 6-0 over Hockey Bihar. The second quarter saw Manipur take the lead thanks to goals from Manimatum Malbam (18′) and Gerik Ningombam Singh (22′), followed by goals from Vishal Warimbam (43′), Konthoujam Sanjit Singh (45′), Khetrumayum Borish Singh (53′), and Nishi Saikhom Singh (58′). 

Hockey Arunachal won 9-0 against Hockey Jammu & Kashmir in Pool F. While Suraj Chaudhari (34′), Captain Yuvraj Das (38′), and Mohd Imran Khan (45′) each scored a goal, Kumar Shashank (1′, 48′), MO Sahran (22′, 58′), and Mohd Atif (39′, 60′) scored twice each. 

Later in the evening, Hockey Chandigarh and Hockey Maharashtra are scheduled to play in Pool F.
