Rajeev Shukla, vice-president of the BCCI, made his decision regarding India’s bilateral cricket match against Pakistan. The last bilateral IND-PAK Series took place during the 2012–13 season, when the latter visited the former. India’s last Asia Cup tour of Pakistan took place in 2008. Since the 2005–06 season, they haven’t gone on a bilateral series tour of Pakistan.
The horrific act has been criticised globally in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which killed 26 people in Kashmir on April 22. All areas, including sports organisations, have responded strongly. In one of the worst clashes with Pakistan, terrorists from a Lashkar-e-Taiba-associated group opened fire on a group of unaware tourists in the beautiful meadows of Baisaran in Pahalgam, killing 26 people. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, cricket between the two nations has also drawn attention.
Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, there were rumours that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had written to the ICC to request that India and Pakistan not be placed in the same group at future international competitions (such as the World Cup and the Champions Trophy).
Rajeev Shukla, vice-president of the BCCI, made his decision regarding India’s bilateral cricket match against Pakistan. He mentioned – “We are with the victims and we condemn it. Whatever our government says, we will do. We don’t play with Pakistan in a bilateral series because of the government’s stand. And we will not play bilaterally with Pakistan going forward. However, when it comes to the ICC event, we play due to ICC engagement. ICC is also aware that whatever is happening, they will do it.”
