Rohit Sharma Announced Retirement From Test Cricket: END of an Era

Rohit Sharma announced retirement from test cricket, which comes ahead of the much-awaited five-match Test series between India and England, which starts on June 20. Although he has chosen to step away from red-ball cricket, he mentions that he will continue playing ODIs for India.

Rohit Sharma had appeared in 67 Tests, scoring 4,301 runs including 12 hundreds. Famous for his explosive starts and solid technique on Indian pitches, his recent form began to dip, with only a single century in 19 innings. He was dropped for the final Test against Australia earlier this year, which meant that his future in Test cricket began to be questioned.

The BCCI praised Rohit’s contribution to Indian Test cricket, calling his retirement the end of an important era. With Rohit stepping down, the board is now looking at possible replacements for the Test captaincy. Vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah and young star Shubman Gill are among the top choices, though Bumrah’s workload as a fast bowler may be a concern.

As Rohit Sharma bids farewell to the Test format of cricket, fans will remember him as a perfect number three, a dependable batsman bringing stability and strength to India’s top order. In the longest format of the game, his leadership and aura will surely be missed.
