After India wrote another successful chapter in its illustrious cricket history, skipper Rohit Sharma paid homage to the “Silent Hero,” Shreyas Iyer.
India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the final on Sunday to secure the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 championship. After winning the Champions Trophy in 2013 and 2022 (sharing the trophy with Sri Lanka), this was India’s third Champions Trophy victory.
India’s middle order has been the team’s unsung hero throughout the competition, stepping up when needed to either stabilize the innings following setbacks by the top order or create vital partnerships to lead the team to victory.
“I am very proud of this team. We knew the conditions would be difficult, but we adapted well. If you look at all the games, the first game was against Bangladesh. I know it was only 230, but we knew that the wicket was a little slow. We needed partnerships. The batsmen made a big partnership. Not to forget, the silent hero Shreyas Iyer throughout the tournament was brilliant. He was very, very important in that middle phase for us. Stitched the partnerships with all the batters who are batting with him that semi-final against Australia with him and Virat at that point was very, very important,” said Rohit at the post-match conference.
