After getting clean bowled for just one run by Mitchell Santner, India’s talismanic batsman Virat Kohli wasted yet another chance to get back to his best. Following Shubman Gill’s dismissal of LBW for 30 runs in the morning session of the second Test in Pune, Kohli came out to bat.
When he played his ninth ball of the innings, Virat Kohli miscalculated the ball’s direction, causing him to smash his stumps. In the first innings of the second Test, Kohli once again let the fans down with his bat after struggling in the first innings of the Bengaluru Test against the Kiwis.
Kohli got yorked while attempting to sweep a longer delivery from Santner; the ball passed through the space between his bat and the ball and struck the stumps. When Kohli realized he would have to walk back to the pavilion, his expression was one of shock.
Since 2021, Virat Kohli has not performed as effectively against spinners in Asia. In the 26 innings that he has played, Virat Kohli has amassed 606 runs and been removed 21 times. He had a strike rate of 49.67 and an average of 28.85 in these games.
Kohli hasn’t recently displayed the kind of form that made him a world-beater, regardless of the format. In the ICC Test rankings for batsmen, Rishabh Pant just surpassed him as well.
With seven wickets in the first innings, Washington Sundar led India in wicket-taking, while Ashwin added three more to help the Kiwis be bowled out for 259 runs. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, was removed for a duck on the ninth ball he faced, failing to put up a significant score.
